Stoupa Hotels and Accommodation
The seaside resort of Stoupa lies in Mani, the middle one of three peninsulas in the southern Peloponnese. Although it only has a population of around 400 permanent residents, the village attracts a good many tourists during the summer months. Set in the foothills of the magnificent Taygetos Mountains, Stoupa is not only the site of the castle which was once the citadel of the ancient town of Lefkto, but is also the home of the Mine of Pestova. Located at the top of the Mani peninsula, the Caves of Diros are a truly magnificent spectacle. Arriving at the entrance to the caves, visitors walk down a stairway to an underground lake where small boats await to take them on a subterranean tour. Following a half hour journey through tunnels and caverns with stalagmites and stalactites, there is a ten-minute walk to the exit. For the more energetic, the nearby gorges of Ridomo and Viros offer excellent walking expeditions.
