Arkadi Hotels and Accommodation
Arkadi is a small historical village situated in the prefecture of Rethimno (Rethymno) on the Greek island of Crete. Close to the village is the Arkadi Monastery which is one of the most important monuments in Crete and where the village gets its name from. It is believed to have been founded by the Byzantine emperor Arcadius during the 5th century AD. The village is the best place to stay for visiting the Monastery and you can book accommodation at one of the discount hotels in Arkadi.
Crete is quite a small island and if you hire a car there are so many places you can visit either to see the many historical sights, or to experience the surrounding countryside, towns and villages. The closest city is Rethimno just 23km distant, and here you will find some lovely beaches and plenty of good restaurants where you can sample the local mezze dishes. Other local places of interest in the nearby area include the small gorge of Arkadi. It’s a great archeological feature and further down it you will come to the tiny village of Pikris which is renowned for its Venetian style architecture. There are several cheap hotels in Arkadi where you will be ideally situated not only for visiting the Monastery, but also for exploring everything there is to see in the region too.
