Magnificent beaches and interesting archaeological sites characterize the town of Rethymno on the Greek island of Crete. The ancient origins of the town of Rethymno now provide a wealth of interesting attractions and landmarks for tourists to visit. The Fortress of Fortezza was built in the 16th century to protect the harbor and city; now there are only remains but they are still worth a visit for their historic value.
