Twenty-three kilometres to the west of Vathi, you will be able to find the monastery of Moni Vronta. Set on a high mountain, this fortified structure from the 15th century offers any visitor, whether local or tourist, some of the greatest sights of Samos. The monastery overlooks the sea and Vourliotes, which is a quaint village on top of a hill.

While you will be able find only one monk in Moni Vrota, you will also discover that he is accompanied by a number of soldiers who are manning a surveillance post nearby. Aside from the view, among the best attractions of Samos that can be found in the monastery are its cave and beautiful ancient chapel, which houses a collection of very old items. A number of these items date back to the founding time of the house of prayer. If you find that the gate of the monastery is locked upon your arrival, just knock and you will be let in by one of the soldiers.
