As anyone who knows anything about the history of Hungary knows what a huge part religion plays in the culture of the people and their traditions. You can’t find a better example of this than in the St. Stephen Basilica located in Budapest. The people of Budapest seem to be faster on the ball than the Pope as this church isn’t recognized as a basilica yet. However the people of Hungary have given it that distinction due to its sheer size. An interesting historical note about this structure is that the construction is considered to be so strong that valuable artwork and documents were stored within its holy walls during WW II.
Completed in 1905, the St. Stephen Basilica was redone in 2003 and is one of the must see Budapest attractions. Viewing this amazing church with its unique dome, gives visitors an incredible look into the history of Budapest and what faith means to its people.
