It’s no surprise to anyone who knows anything about the history of Budapest and Hungary in general that religious faith, both Christian and Jewish, was and continues to be very important. With that fact in mind, one of the places that you simply can’t miss on your trip to Budapest is the Matthias Church. There has been a religious structure in this place since the 13th century. Through the chaotic centuries much of the original structure has been destroyed, but a rebuilding project in the 1960’s restored much of the building.
Fortunately the original 14th century portal in the Gothic style still exists. Another feature of this church that really shouldn't be missed is the amazing diverse colors that have been used to decorate the interior of the building. Throughout the year, many organ concerts are performed here and add to the charm and atmosphere of this ancient church.
