Hotels near Matthias Fountain Matyas kut - Best deals & budget rates!

It only makes sense that the Buda Castle District of Budapest, Hungary is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the region. Not only is it beautiful, but it also contains various examples of Hungarian history. The Matyas kut or Matthias Fountain is certainly an example of this. It is located in the last courtyard before you come to the entrance for the Szechenyi Library. The fountain itself is actually a statue created by Alajos Strobl in 1904. The fountain was taken apart and hidden in various gardens throughout Budapest during WWII. As a result, it is in pretty bad condition, though it is still worth seeing.

The Matthias Fountain was designed to remember the legend of Ilona, a peasant woman who fell in love with the king without realizing his high station in life. The figure of the king is surrounded by the trappings of his position in terms of his dogs and court members.
