The multitudes of discount hotels in Visegrád are surrounded by centuries of history. This seemingly quite little village has played a large part in Hungary’s past. The Cloud Castle sits on a mountaintop overlooking the village with fabulous vistas of the famous Danube. Visitors can hike to the top and tour the ruins. The Mehmed Pasa Sokolovic Bridge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 16th century, the Ottoman style bridge has 11 arches and spans the Danube River.
Even more cheap hotels in Visegrád are located near Fellegvar and the Solomon Tower. Fellegvar is a massive citadel from the 13th century, originally used by the Romans. For over one hundred years it was the job of those stationed here to guard the royal family. Solomon Tower is an example of Romanesque architecture. It was originally attached to the lower castle and served as an aqueduct. Today, visitors can see the water supply and the tower which was rebuilt in the 1930’s.
