Tihany Hotels and Accommodation
The major attraction of Tihany is the Benedictine Abbey. Founded in 1055 by King András I (King Andrew I), it remains a fine example of Romanesque and Baroque architecture. The crypt, the final resting place of the King, is Romanesque. So, too, are the lancet-arch windows and the 3-aisel crypt hall. The façade and the 16th and 17th century paintings are of the Baroque period. Be sure to visit the Abbey Museum with its exhibits on Lake Balaton. You can also see archeological material in the cellar. The Lapidarium displays temporary exhibitions of secular and ecclesiastical art. Locate a hotel in Tihany close to this and other attractions using EasyToBook.com. Do not ignore the simple value of comfortable discount Tihany hotels. They can extend your visit to such sights as the Baba (Doll) Museum.
One of the popular sights of Tihany is the so-called Open-Air Museum. It consists of several closely grouped structures. In town, you can visit the Fishermen’s Guild House featuring old fishing boats and a wooden dog – a sledge for using during the winter. There is a Peasant’s House as well as a Farmer’s House and a Pottery Workshop. All are made of the same substance – Basaltic tuff and reed. Nearby to many a hotel in Tihany is the Puppet Museum. Here, various puppets, many with porcelain heads, wear traditional clothing or folk dress.
