One of the many famous palatial structures in the area, the Jehangir Mahal is bound to be of outstanding interest to the Orchha tourists who is looking for something to do that offers not only entertainment but also a glimpse at the country’s culture and history. A unique blend of Islamic and Hindu architectural styles, the Jehangir Mahal features a simply decorated exterior with great symmetry and many vaulted domes that have become emblematic of Indian architecture.
The Mahal was originally created to serve as the women’s quarters during the reign of Akbar. In line with this purpose is one of the more intriguing sights of the structure, a massive stone bowl featuring literally hundreds of hard carved prayers, that probably once held fragrant rose water for the pleasure of the concubines. Visitors to Jehangir Mahal can also visit several other important structures just a short walk away, including the Raj Mahal, the Rai Parveen Mahal and the Chaturbhuj Temple.
