The Punjab was created in 1947 when the partition of India and Pakistan split the area, which is located in the northwest of the country. The word Punjab comes from Persian, and means “Land of Five Rivers”. The five rivers that wend their way through the state are the Beas, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej.
