If you want to check out something a little different, go to the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal. This building in the center of Udaipur is home to folk art and Puppet Shows. Relax away from the heaviness of temples for a minute and enjoy a performance by puppets or musicians. Afterwards, head back to your Udaipur hotel, refreshed and recharged. You are then ready to begin the round of the town’s many temples. You can also abandon them and head for the pleasures of the Lakes. Udaipur is the City of the Lakes. Visit Pichola (Lake), Udai Sagar or Fateh Sagar. The complex of buildings known as the City Palace is on the east bank of Lake Pichola. The series of palaces rose here from 1559. They reflect the changes in architecture. Enter through the Big Gate then onwards through the Triple Gate. The actual City Palace has cupolas, towering spires and balconies. Of particular significance is the Balcony of the Sun. Do not forget to visit the Pratap Museum in the complex. It contains old sculptures and antique paintings. In the Ruby Palace are glass objects. There are other works of art, including fine paintings, in the Krishma Palace and Pearl Palace.
