Cork Hotels and Accommodation

There are a few “must-sees” in the center of Cork. The main attractions range from the old gaol to the spiraling Cathedral to the art galleries. There is the new Lewis Gluckman Gallery (2004) with its ever changing exhibits and installations and the more predictable Crawford Municipal Art Galery (1724). There are plenty of hotels in Cork to ensure you do not need to miss-out on a tour of the Beamish and Crawford Brewery. Book a hotel in Cork using the list provided by EasyToBook.com. Once settled, prepare your agenda for an historic tour of the old town.
Rise early and head down to the Quay to see the port side of the town. Head back to your Cork hotel for a full Irish breakfast. Camera in hand, head over to the grand St. Finbarre’s Cathedral (1870). This Anglican Church has it all. There are spires reaching skyward and gargoyles to provide protection. The Cathedral is rich in sculpture inside and out. French Neo-Gothic and Medieval fantasy combine. Note the golden age on the eastern side. Inside, you will see marble floor mosaics, an immense pulpit and the bishop’s throne. Amidst stone tracery, look up to see the painted and gilded apse ceiling. From here, wander over to the secular and severe Cork City Gaol. Closed in 1923, it now acts as an audio and visual rendering of the horrors of corporal punishment of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Cells contain models of prisoners and guards. Upstairs, you will find something very different, a Radio Museum. Within walking distance from the museum and many hotels in Cork is the landmark St. Ann’s Shannon (1722). By N. R. Lee, it consists of 2 sides of limestone façades and 2 of red stone. The 4 sides of the clock face, until 1986, failed to keep accurate and agreeable time on any face earning it the name of the Four-Faced Liar.
