Galway is the city of Festivals. It has a lively medieval town center. Tourists arrive in Galway with plans to explore the various attractions, including the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas 14th century), Eyre Square, the city’s true center and Lynch’s Castle, a 16th century fortified house. Nora Barnacle House was once the home of the love and wife of the famed Irish writer, James Joyce. A small 19th century townhouse, it is home to the country’s smallest museum. The Galway city Museum, by contrast, is within a larger and newer building. You can locate it behind the 1584 Spanish Arch. Parts of St. Nicholas also date from this period. The church façade features medieval gargoyles and other stone carvings.
