It was first leased by Arthur Guinness in the year 1759, for an astounding 9,000 years. Home of the world famous Guinness beer, the St. James's Gate Brewery plant was literally its own small village, with the brewery owning much of the surrounding property. At one time there was even a narrow gauge steam engine, that ran on the brewery’s own set of railroad tracks, as well as its own power plant. At the height of the company, the brewery encompassed almost a full 64 acres.
