First opened in 1887 as a tribute to Queen Victoria and her first fifty years as monarch, Killiney Hill has become a landmark of the area. Killiney Hill is the second and most southern of two hills in the park, with the other being Dalkey Hill. Both hills overlook Dublin Bay, providing a breathtaking spot to walk, have a picnic or just sit and enjoy the spectacular view. Walking paths throughout this smaller sized park are ideal for an evening stroll or a pleasant afternoon outing.
The hill is crowned with an obelisk that measures 153 meters in height. The obelisk serves as both a landmark and a wonderful backdrop for photographs. It is also possible from the area around the obelisk to see the Irish Sea and the Wicklow Mountains on a clear and fog-free day.
