If you like a location with buildings of historical interest, then why not book your Ireland vacation in a budget hotel in Dublin near to Merrion Square Park. The park is surrounded by Georgian houses which were traditionally popular with the aristocracy, and the park area was originally purchased by the Catholic church to build a cathedral. When the plans for this fell through, the land was donated to the Dublin corporation for use as a public park.
The park remains today and has various statues and memorials, as well as a collection of old Dublin lamp posts and sculptures. There are several gardens as well – a central floral garden and a heather garden. There is also a children's playground. This once exclusive area was only available for keyholders who lived in the Georgian square, but is now a public place of beauty.
