One of the most well known homes in Ireland, Powerscourt graces the Wicklow Mountains a stones throw from the city of Dublin. Guests arrive at the Powerscourt Estate by way of the mile long avenue lined with over 2,000 beech trees. Once inside the palatial building, visitors can tour the historical exhibit housed in the entrance hall and learn all about the beginnings of the property. The double height Georgian ballroom was recently restored to its former glory and now plays host to fairytale weddings and elegant corporate events. The house is also home to the best of Irish design in gifts, clothes, and furniture in the Avoca Stores and the Interiors Gallery.
After a day of shopping and touring, you can treat yourself to a delicately prepared dish from the Avoca Cookbook in the Terrace Cafe. The gardens at the estate are astonishing. All 47 acres of gardens are remarkable, not only for their grandeur, but because they are full of whimsical delicacy combined with dignified refinement. Visitors are encouraged to walk through the many sections of the garden and enjoy their beauty and the history behind their existence. Situated near the house is Powerscourt Waterfall, Ireland's largest waterfall and a perfect place to picnic after a hike through the woods.
