Swords is located just a hop, skip and a jump to the north of Dublin City. It is an interesting place in itself to visit, but also due to its proximity to Dublin
it is a great place to be close to stay while enjoying visiting the sights around Dublin. This ancient town can trace its history back to 560 A.D. A great place to start a getaway in Swords is to visit Swords Castle in the centre of town. Started before 1200, the castle was completed over a period of about 400 years. Another tourist attraction is the Church of Ireland in Swords, which is over 300 hundred years old. In times past the Round Tower here was used for defense to ward of invaders. All valuables would be stored in the church’s tower and then boiling water would be dropped on would be attackers from the “murder hole”.
