A great place to start a getaway in Swords is to visit Swords Castle in the centre of town. Started before 1200, the castle was completed over a period of about 400 years. Another tourist attraction is the Church of Ireland in Swords, which is over 300 hundred years old. In times past the Round Tower here was used for defense to ward of invaders. All valuables would be stored in the church’s tower and then boiling water would be dropped on would be attackers from the “murder hole”.
