The town of Kenmare in Kerry is a 17th century market town. Many tourists arrive in Kenmare with the intent of using the city as a start to their exploration of the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara. There are, however, other reasons for remaining a day or two in Kenmare. The town has a few interesting sights to visit within its center. These include Holy Cross Church, the Kenmare Heritage Center and Cromwell’s Bridge.
While in Kenmare, a visit to the church is well worth your time. The Holy Cross Church dates from 1864. It features some superb angel spandriels carved from wood from the German Black Forest. There is also the Heritage Center. It has town models. It is also home to the Kenmare Lace and Design Center or museum. Here, you can discover the types and designs of lace for which the town is well known.
