This big plaza in front of Tel Aviv's City Hall Building is the largest outdoor square and meeting place in all of Tel Aviv. It used to be called the “Kings of Israel Square,” before the Israli Prime Minister, Itzhak Rabin, was shot and killed there in 1995, during a political rally. Parades, rallies, and public meetings are still often held in the square, which now serves as a kind of monument to the fallen Prime Minister. The Israeli Defense Forces used to line up on the square during the anniversary of Israel's independence, but they stopped in the early 1990's.

There's an actual memorial dedicated to Itzhak Rabin in the northeast corner of the square. On a large slab of marble, an inscription states that Itzhak Rabin fell at this spot during the struggle for piece. There's another memorial just to the west of that, in a sculpture by artist Yigal Tumarkin acknowledging the terrible impact of the Holocaust and commemorating its many victims. Many a tourists in Israel has stopped at this square over the course of walking through Tel Aviv, to pay his or her respects.
