The “Eretz Israel Museum” translates to “The Land of Israel Museum” in English. The name is taken literally, as the museum is laid out more like a park than a traditional museum. The physical land itself, on which the museum stands, is the exhibit. The museum consists of a cluster of terraces and pavilions spread out around Tel Kasile, an ancient earth mound. With the help of a map, visitors and tourists can walk around the pavilions and observe the real, active archaeological digs that are still going on around the Tel Kasile mound.
The Eretz Israel Museum still contains exhibits such one might find in a traditional museum. They are not the main focus of the museum, but exist to help clarify the mysteries of the land itself, Eretz Israel. Each pavilion has themed displays that incorporate findings from the diverse fields of archeology, Jewish history, Judaica (study of Jewish religion), ethnography, and anthropology.
