The Tel Aviv Central Bus Terminal is the biggest passenger bus terminal not only in Tel Aviv, but in the world. Its construction was finished only in 1993, after being stopped for more than twenty years. The building of the terminal started in 1867, so the whole thing took 26 years to build - it's like a modern-day cathedral. In addition to being a hub for the buses of the city and its surrounding region, the Central Bus Terminal is the top destination in Tel Aviv for shopping.
The station's seven floors are almost entirely taken up by a gargantuan shopping mall, which contains 29 escalators and 13 modern high-speed elevators. Over 1,000 stores and eating establishments share space in the mall. Unfortunately, the station is poorly designed and hard to navigate. This is especially shocking in a city as well known as Tel Aviv for the top-of-the-line design and bold architecture of its buildings.
