Outdoor enthusiasts will be pleased with the natural beauty of some of the sights of Ancona; one example is Monte Conero, a mountain surrounded by a beautiful natural park and overlooking the sea. Monte Conero Park, indeed, is a protected area in which visitors can hike or walk along its over 18 trails that meander through the forests of the area; you can decide to follow these trails on your own or hire an experienced guide to walk with you and explain the natural characteristics of the park. Within the park you can observe the path of migratory birds like the Peregrine Falcon and nocturnal birds of prey, you can stumble upon important historical and artistic structures and you can enjoy local food and wine products.

The mountain, with a height of about 572 meters, takes its name from one of its most ancient products, the Komaròs, for the ancient Greeks, or the “Marine Cherry” (“Corbezzolo), for the Italians. This is a common Mediterranean shrub with some round berry-like fruits; the fruits are sweet, with a granular outer layer that can be yellow to scarlet red, depending on its level of maturity. These fruits are collected in autumn and can be eaten fresh or preserved; there are some local wines that use these berries as well. Among the animals that you can find on the mountain, there is the badger, the marten, the weasel and a number of reptiles.
