Arezzo is the province in which the illustrious Michelangelo was born, as well as the Italian poet and author, Francesco Petrarca. The province is found in the northern Italian region of Tuscany and is traversed by the Arno River. There are a variety of natural parks in the area as well as cities and towns full of art, architecture and cultural attractions. The capital city of the province bears the name of the province itself, Arezzo; in June and September, the city celebrates a historical re-enactment, called the Giostra del Saracino, when the townspeople dress in typical medieval costumes. Pass by the town of Castiglion Fiorentino and check out the Church of San Francesco, a Romanesque-Gothic church dating to the 13th century, as well the Santuario della Madonna del Bagno, a sanctuary built in the spot where the Madonna has said to have appeared in the 16th century.
