If you’re looking for things to do in Arezzo, you should definitely not miss the opportunity to check out the Duomo, or the Cathedral. This imposing Gothic construction was begun towards the end of the 13th century; work didn’t end on it until the beginning of the 16th century. The current façade, which is actually incomplete, was created at the beginning of the 1990s. The door on the right side of the Cathedral is in Romanesque-Gothic style and was constructed around the 1300s; it is flanked by the base of a thick column, the remains of a pre-existing building of probable Roman origin. In the space above the door, you can see a representation, created in the 14th century, of the Madonna with Child between Saint Donato and Gregorio X.

In the mid-19th century a bell tower was constructed adjacent to the polygonal apse. The interior of the church is divided into three majestic naves, divided by tall columns characterized by multiple styles; these, along with the arches, give the entire church a strong upward focus. Take a walk through the church to admire the impressive stained glass windows, created around the 16th century, and the 14th century Gothic tomb of Pope Gregory X, located in the right nave. The Tarlati chapel, dating to the 1300s, is also worth checking out, as is the Arca di San Donato, located above the main altar and also dating to the 14th century.
