In southeastern Italy, the town of Conversano is located at what is often called the ‘heel of the boot' of the country in the Bari region. Relics found in the region show that the area has been settled since the Iron Age when it was known as Norba. The Greeks had a colony there around the 6th century B.C., followed by the Romans and the Visigoths. When you travel to your budget hotel in Conversano, you might notice that the town has some architectural styles that are different from what you have seen in other parts of Italy. This is due to the Byzantine influence on the town and its architects.

The main attraction in Conversano is the medieval castle. It sits on top of the highest hill in a dominate position above the town. From there you can see all the way to the sea. It was built in the 4th century but was rebuilt in the 11th century. The neighboring piazza, or square, is called the Largo della Corte. It is the main square in town and an excellent place for people watching. The Cathedral of Conversano was also built in the 11th century but was majorly renovated in the 14th and 17th centuries. Also see the Benedictine Monastery and ask the staff at your discount Conversano hotel to direct you to the 6th century B.C. Megalithic walls.
