If you’re looking for things to do in Barletta, you should head over to the Basilica del Santo Sepolcro, or the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher, which is located in the center of the city. The structure was built in Gothic style at the end of the 12th century and has undergone numerous renovations, some quite recent. Indeed, the current façade has a Baroque character, with two blind archways. The left side is characterized by deep blind archways and a Gothic door, while the three apses are lined with arches. Inside the church, there are three naves divided by columns, a cupola that dates to the end of the 14th century and three semicircular apses.

To the left of the entrance, you can admire a baptismal font that dates to the 13th century, while the altar located in the apse on the right side of the church contains an interesting Byzantine-style Madonna, which dates to the 16th century. The church is famous for its “treasure”, comprised of numerous works, many made of gold and originating in Palestine. There are what are believed to be the remains of the Holy Cross on which Jesus was crucified, a tabernacle dating to the 13th century and a gilded Eucharist dove that dates to around 1100, among other things. Finally, a good part of the inside of the church is decorated in 15th century frescoes. To check out this church and other sights in Barletta, research the most convenient hotels in Barletta.
