One of the most interesting Barletta attractions is Palazzo Della Marra, considered among the top examples of Baroque architecture in the southern region of Apulia. If you're interested in checking this building out, there are a number of Barletta hotels in its vicinity. It was built originally in the middle of the sixteenth century and was the residence of important aristocratic families through the ages until the middle of the twentieth century. The first owners seem to have been the Orsini family, but the building underwent substantial renovations with its next owners, the Della Marra family.

Indeed, the Della Marra family greatly enriched the building artistically, by redoing the façade and renovating the precious statues representing “Old Age” and “Youth” that dominate the sumptuous main balcony. Other impressive sculptures along the balcony were also renovated. The interior of the building, made of three levels and containing a courtyard, loggias and columns, contains bas-reliefs, sculptures and arabesque designs. Currently, the building’s second floor houses a permanent art gallery, the Pinacoteca De Nittis, while the first floor is used for temporary exhibitions.
