Nearly 5,000 people live in the hilltop hamlet of Monteveglio. The small cluster of medieval buildings at the top of the hill is dominated by the Abbey of Monteveglio, which was founded before 1000 A.D. As the town built up around the abbey, the buildings began to trickle down the hillside to the Samoggia Valley.
