The town of Chiusa lies nestled along a valley floor near the Italian border with Germany in the province of Bolzano. The name actually comes from a Germen word, ‘kluse,’ which gradually changed into the current Italian word for ‘closed.’ The name derived from the rather isolated physical location of the town. One will certainly not visit Chiusa without noticing the ‘medieval jewel’ of the Monastery of Sabiona. It was founded in 1686, and is an immense stone structure that seems to grow out of the rock that it sits upon.

In the city, a long street divides the two sections of the town into the Citta Alta (Upper City) from the Citta Bassa (Lower City). The Casa Wegmacher and the Chiesa degli Apostoli are two Gothic structures to visit. The Piazza Parrochia contains the Chiesa di Santa Andrea, which was constructed in the late 15th century on the foundations of a Roman temple. The Tower of Sagrestano is across from the Chapel of the Crypt, with tombs dating to 1439. EasyToBook.com will help you decide on the best cheap Chiusa hotel or other area budget hotel for you.
