Desenzano del Garda is a municipality in the province of Brescia, in Northern Italy; it borders lake Garda. It has a beautiful view of the Alps and a number of beaches. The city offers various shops, bars, ice-cream parlors and open air cafés. Desenzano, though, also offers history and culture. On your cultural journey, make sure you stop by the Duomo di Santa Maria Maddalena, which is a mix of classical, late Renaissance and Baroque style architecture and which houses a number of works of art. There are also the remains of a castle, which was built in the Middle Ages, most likely above ancient Roman ruins, and which offers a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding area. There is also the Tower of San Martino, built in 1878 in a Neo-gothic style; within the tower you’ll be able to see a number of frescoes. If you’re planning a trip to the area of Lake Garda for a weekend, Desenzano del Garda is a great place to check out.
