Sirmione is a town found on a peninsula jutting out from the south shore of the Garda Lake. Beautiful countryside landscapes surround the town, while the town itself contains numerous noteworthy sites to see and activities in which to participate, not to mention a bustling nightlife to enjoy, especially on the weekend. Sirmione offers fabulous restaurants, with great wine, and a number of clubs and bars. You’ll be able to find both high class fashion shops and street markets.
Being on the lake, you’ll obviously able to enjoy water sports, though Sirmione offers much more. You can visit the Grotte di Catullo, or Caves of Catullo, which are the remains of a Roman villa that was constructed on the tip of the peninsula. Sirmione is also famous for its spa, which is the largest privately owned thermal treatment center in Italy; the sulphur-impregnated waters are pumped from a hot spring under the surface of Garda Lake. Another impressive and popular site on the peninsula is the Scaliger Castle, which dates to the 13th century; this castle houses a medieval port fortification.
