Catania (Province) Hotels and Accommodation

Catania is a province on the Italian island of Sicily, which houses the largest active volcano in all of Europe: Mount Etna. The volcano has created such particular geographical characteristics that the area is a protected natural park. Quite a bit of the province’s coastline is bathed by the Ionian Sea and the province is known for its characteristic beaches, some of which are actually made of black sand, or ash, from previous eruptions of Mt. Etna. Throughout the province you can go horseback riding and visit characteristic little historical towns. The capital of the province, also called Catania, is right on the water and is a popular tourist location both in the winter and summer, with beaches that are either made of black sand or large lava rocks.
