Como is an important city in Northern Italy; it is found approximately 45 km from Milan. The city is found at the southern tip of the eastern arm of Lake Como, the third largest lake in Italy and an important tourist destination. It is an active and bustling little town, with plenty of cafés, bars, ice-cream parlors, shops and clubs. This is a great place to spend a weekend; Como offers a wide variety of activities and entertainment opportunities, many connected to the lake itself.
Como also offers a very impressive historical center. Check out the Duomo, which was started in the 14th century but not completed until the 18th century; you’ll be able to see many different architectural styles, like Gothic and Renaissance, and other important works of art here. The churches of San Fedele and Sant’Abbondio are even older and worth a visit. Finally, if you’re in the area at the end of August/beginning of September, then you should definitely check out the Palio del Baradello, a historical feast that lasts around 2 weeks and is comprised of a number of competitions, good food and historical parades.
