The Terme Luigiane, or the Luigiane Thermal Baths, are an integral part of Acquappesa tourism; indeed, they constitute the oldest and most well known thermal establishment in the entire region of Calabria. The thermal baths themselves are located in an area of dense forest that is, however, close to a splendid sea. The healing properties of the sulfuric waters have been known since at least the first century AD and the geographic location of the thermal baths have made out of them a marvelous destination for all those searching for a bit of relaxation and both physical and spiritual well being.

Today, the thermal establishment is composed of three major structures equipped with the latest in spa technology and treatment options; there are also minor structures and hotels. The waters itself contain sulfur, bromine and iodine and flow from three hot thermal springs and two cooler springs. The mud and algae found within these waters, along with the water itself, are used in treating inflammatory conditions, especially those that affect children, such as otitis, tonsillitis and inflammation of the pharynx and adenoids. Immersion in the waters can also help treat things like atopic dermatitis; one of the establishment’s specialties is the treatment of respiratory diseases.
