Located on the southernmost portion of Italy's peninsula, Crotone is a scenic, historic city with a few unusual draws. The city's history is a long one, with it being founded in 710 BC by the Achaeans who established it as a colony. Its present name wasn't put into effect until 1928 and, for hundreds of years, it was known as Cotrone.
The city's draws include the Black Madonna, a statue which is said to have been brought here during the very beginning of the Christian religion. The Black Madonna sits in the Cathedral, another draw, which dates from the 9th Century. The Castle of Charles V is home to the Town museum and great archaeological finds that tell the history of the city. There is one more castle, very ancient, which is only accessible by a small path that leads to the island on which it's situated. EasyToBook.com has great deals on Crotone hotels.
