One of the interesting Bagno a Ripoli attractions is the Villa Lappeggi, also known as the Villa Medicea di Lappeggi, because it once belonged to the famous Medici family. It originated as a construction with towers, most likely around the 14th century and passed through the hands of various noble families until being sold to Francesco I de’ Medici in 1569. In 1667, it was given to Cardinal Francesco Maria, who had it completely renovated. Indeed, the cardinal was so enamored of the villa that in 1706, he initiated a global renovation project to give the villa the true aspect of a princely residence.

The villa was amplified and given new exteriors, statues were put in and splendid gardens with fountains and other water structures were included. The external part of the building was re-constructed with 18th century motifs and a new balcony. New structures were also built, such as a theater, stables and a conservatory, and spaces for games throughout the garden, as well as walkways, were included. The inside of the villa was decorated with impressive frescoes by a number of different artists, and in the 19th century an oratory was added.
