Brancacci Chapel Florence

The Brancacci Chapel is part of the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine situated in the Oltrarno district of Florence Italy. The chapel, which is located in the right-hand arm of the transept of the church, depicts impressive illustrations of Renaissance art and of Florentine history. The Brancacci family were the patrons of the chapel, hence the name Brancacci Chapel. Masolino and his student Masaccio were commissioned to paint the wall frescoes by Felice Brancacci in 1423, however Masolino had to leave shortly afterwards, and only Masaccio continued perfecting new methods of painting until he died at age 27 with his work unfinished. In those days, politics and religion were strongly intermeshed and once Felice Brancacci was exiled and declared an enemy of state the chapel suffered some damage.
