The Bagno di Romagna tourism office is located within the impressive Palazzo dei Capitani, also sometimes called Palazzo del Capitano. This is one of the buildings in the city that is richest in history. Its severe façade, animated by the coats of arms of Captains and Vicars, tells of the extended Florentine domination in this part of the region, from the year 1404 to the year 1923. The building has always been the center of political power, since the Middle Ages. The ground floor was dedicated to council meetings, legal matters and prisons, while the piano nobile was the residence of the Captain.

In the 1800s it became a municipal building, then carabinieri (police) headquarters, all the while undergoing extensive renovations. It was completely abandoned in the 1950s, but then reacquired by the city and renovated again. Today, it houses a library and the Historical Archives, the Visitor’s Center of the Foreste Casentinese, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park, as well as the Tourism Office. The large halls on the first floor often host temporary exhibitions and conferences, while the courtyard hosts film presentations and concerts in the summer.
