Cesenatico is a community in the province of Forli-Cesena in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. It is about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) south of the city of Ravenna. Cesenatico dates back to the 14th century and its port was designede by Leonardo da Vinci. This is a wonderful place to make a stop during a tour, or even to spend a weekend. Cesenatico would be a great base from which to tour this beautiful part of Italy, and lovely Ravenna is just down the road. People come to Cesenatico for the beaches and the nightlife, but they also come for certain special events. Every year, after the first Thursday in May, Cesenatico hosts the Italian Mathematics Olympiad. In July or August the city holds the annual Cucagna – a local greased pole climbing contest. In September there is the annual cycling event, recently renamed in honor of Marco Pantani.
