The province of Lecce is located in the southern Italian region of Apulia; it is actually the province found at the very tip of the heel of the Italian boot. Within this province, there is the easternmost point of Italy, at Punta Palascìa, in the town of Otranto. Many tourists flock to this site on New Year’s Eve and wait for the first Italian sunrise of the new year at the feet of the lighthouse found here.
