Assago is a small town of 7,780 inhabitants in the northern Italian province of Milan, part of the region of Lombardy. It is the home of two football (soccer) teams: the GS ASSAGO and O.S.M. As the entire country of Italy is insane with its love of football, the presence of these two teams is no small matter. The town was first mentioned in a document dating to 1153. Archaeological remains show the town to date from Roman times at least.
One point of interest in Assago is its Forum, a complex modern structure of concrete and glass. Another attraction is the Cascina Bazzanella, the biggest in Assago of the "Cassines" (agricultural compounds) so characteristic of the region. It is still active. The church of St. Desiderio is another attraction. Archaeological surveys were carried out there during the twentieth century that showed the city to have origins from at least the 1st century AD.
