Bareggio is a town in northern Italy, in the province of Milan in Lombardy. It contains 16,264 permanent residents. The town gives off an aura of history and conflict. Bareggio's first inhabitants were the mysterious Etruscans, who were ousted by the Gauls, who in turn were ousted by the Romans in 197 BC. In 569 AD, the Lombards took control of the town, only to be chased away in 774 AD by the Franks under Charlemagne. In the Middle Ages, the Church controlled the town, or rather the Abbot of the Basilica of St. Ambrose in Milan. In modern times, different powers again vied for control of the town: it was in the possession of Austria, then France, then Austria again, and then finally the nation of Italy.

Attractions in the town include the Parochial Church of Santi Nazaro e Celso, the smaller Church of Santa Maria alla Brughiera, and the Palazzo Visconti di Modrone—the Viscounts' Palace.
