When you walk along the streets of Milan, you are walking on top of streets that were once part of the ancient Roman empire. The city of Milan was once called Mediolanum and was an important Celtic center before the Romans arrived. Today the remnants of the former empire can be found all across the city. One ruin that remains is the ruins of the amphitheatre of Mediolanum. If you stay in a budget hotel near the ruins of the amphitheatre of Mediolanum in Milan, you will be situated in the southwestern corner of the inner city.
