The largest, most popular and frequented piazza in Milan is the Piazza del Duomo, or Duomo Square. The rectangular piazza is formed by the series of buildings that frame it, the most dominant and recognizable of which is the Duomo di Milano, or the Cathedral of Milan. To get a great view of the entire Duomo Square, check to see when the Duomo will be allowing visitors to climb to the roof. The times can vary, based on whether or not the church is doing maintenance of if an event is scheduled in the square. If you have a short stay in Milan - or if you simply want to be in the middle of the action, reserve a budget hotel near the Duomo Square in Milan.

If your discount hotel in Milan is close to the Duomo Square, you might even hear the cathedral bells during breakfast, but there are other attractions in the Duomo Square. The statue in the center is of Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of unified Italy, sitting astride his horse. The large archway is the entrance to the Galleria that is also named for the king.
