If you choose a discount hotel in Milan near the Porta Garibaldi railway station, then you will probably become very familiar with the station and its surroundings. You will most likely arrive at your hotel by either a local train that stops at the train station, or by the M2 line of the metro, getting off at the Porta Garibaldi stop. Since the station is just to the north of the city, you will probably also find the metro convenient for seeing the rest of the city.

When you stay in a discount hotel near the Porta Garibaldi railway station, you will inevitably see the impressive Porta Garibaldi that sits nearby, from which the station got its name. An ancient Roman gate, the Porta Comasina, was originally in the same spot. The gate was once part of the Roman walls that used to surround Milan’s city center. However, the Roman gate was demolished in the 16th century. The current gate wasn’t constructed until 1848.
