Even if you don’t have a specific purpose for visiting it, if you find a discount hotel in Milan near the University of Milan, you should take a quick detour to see it. In particular, take a stroll down the Via Festa del Perdono and see the Ca’ Granda, or ‘big house.’ This stunning 15th century palazzo was once the home of the Ospedale Maggiore, or Major Hospital. The arched façade is incredibly grand for a building that was designed as a hospital for the city’s poor.

The building was expanded and restored several times through the 19th century and again after the palazzo was bombed during World War II. When the building was finally repaired in 1958, the University of Milan moved in.
