On the Piazza del Duomo, before you finish your sightseeing on that square, be sure to visit the Palazzo Reale, or Royal Palace. Besides the Duomo itself, you will be within walking distance to the Galleria and La Scala. Plus, you’ll be convenient to transportation for visiting the other areas of the city as well.
The Palazzo Reale is considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It was built in the 15th century but was remodeled in the 18th century to its current appearance. However, not all of the building is that old; over 30 rooms were damaged during World War II and have since been restored. It was once the home to the royal Torraine and Visconti families. Today you will find two fantastic museums inside the palace – the Contemporary Art Museum (Civico Museo d’Arte Contemporanea or ‘Cimac’ for short) and the Duomo Cathedral Museum.
